OMG! I just couldn't put this book down! This is an excellent follow up to The Rule of Three because... the Fourth Phase is We fight back!!!This is an excellent continuation of the Extinction Cycle NZ - and a complement to Nicholas Sansbury Smith's The Extinction Cycle series. Adrian remains true to the spirit of the original series yet takes us on the journey far from here. The characters are memorable and stay with you: Ben, Jack, Dee, Boss, Maggie, George, and even Max! The story is fast paced with lots of action, drama, humor, and even a little romance. :) Even the Variants have a little different twist in the Alpha nicknamed the Trophy King... and for a gruesome reason.Another aspect that I really enjoyed is that the author introduces us to the Maori culture in a manner which makes me even more curious! The traditions are weaved into the story seamlessly to add greater dimension and depth for us to feel that it's New Zealand. This makes the tale even richer in my opinion. It is shown to us with wonder and respect.Adrian Smith has added something new to a series I already love... and I am looking forward to the next book not only in this series but whatever else the author has to offer! If you loved the original Extinction Cycle, you will love this story, too!
I love this book. It takes off where the first book, "The Rule of Three" ends. Exciting and unique, I couldn't put it down. The main characters are very real, ordinary people thrown into a nightmare world and their battle for survival against horrific monsters. A Must Read
This novella takes up where THE RULE OF THREE ended, the first in this New Zealand version of the EXTINCTION CYCLE.All over the world humans have succumbed to the Hemorrhage Virus, turning from humans into bloodthirsty monster Variants. It didn't bypass New Zealand and the Variants are running rampant through the few remaining humans.Jack and Dee Gee return to the forefront of this second book in the trilogy, getting military training from New Zealand Army Captain Ben Johns. And they make it their mission to kill as many Variants as they can and rescue as many human children, who the Variants seem to favor eating.Non-stop action, blood, guts, and Gore abound in this second tale in the series. I'm now off to read an Advanced Reading Copy of THE FIVE PILLARS, the third and final tale in the trilogy. It will be coming out on February 26, 2019 and I've already pre-ordered a copy to support this author.
The Fourth Phase picks up a few weeks after book 1. The main characters Jack and Dee have joined the army and are being trained. The small group are nicknamed 'The Renegades 'I enjoyed this story immensely. The author weaves in his obvious love for the beautiful country he resides in. He adds the Maori culture, thrilling action and an Alpha Variant that gave me nightmares. When the dust settled and I'd finished, I found myself on the internet looking at all the places mentioned.An excellent edition to the expanding Extinction cycle universe. Purchased book 3. Can't wait to see how Jack, Dee, Boss and Ben are doing.
This book is proof that Adrian Smith’s “The Rule of Three†was not just beginner’s luck. “The Fourth Phase†is his follow-up to The Rule of Three, as well as the continuation of his offering to the Extinction Cycle World, created by Nicholas Sansbury Smith (no relation). I enjoyed this book very much and highly recommend it to anyone interested in this genre. I am definitely looking forward to Adrian Smith’s third book in this series – can’t happen soon enough! This is definitely an author to watch and read!
This is a great book 2 in Adrian's storyline in the Extinction Cycle Worlds created by Nicholas Smith. Adrian does an amazing job of making his characters come alive in this post apocalyptic world where people change into creatures right out of your nightmares. I am really looking forward to book 3, to see how Jack, Dee and Boss are getting on.
Once again we hook up with Jack and Dee along with other characters you'll recognize. It's like visiting ol' home week. We've missed them but now we're back together again! Mr. Smith wows his audience with his writing skills again. New author? Nah, can't be. Get your copy ASAP, you can't go wrong!
