I'm still old fashion I guess, using maps. This Italy map is not only great for driving but, I used it heavily for planning destinations in the Italian Alps (dolomites) and through the Brenner Pass into Austria. Knowing how far and the name of the village or next town is peace of mind that you can't get by using a GPS only. This map is large and very detailed showing the smallest off roads for extra site seeing adventures. Even if you only use it once driving through Italy, its well worth the investment!
A BIG map of Italy! Light weight. Detailed. Has the Islands too. In Italian. The place names are Italian. That is a good thing. Believe it or not City names in Italy are in Italian...Traveling about Italy and knowing just where you are and what's down the track is good. I dislike iPhone and iPad maps. They depend on wireless or WIFI. Data charges on your American phone will bankrupt you! Most Italian trains don't have WIFI either.Old fashioned paper maps always work! Ten stars!
This map is large, and is is crammed with detail--perhaps too much detail if you're planning on using it as a driving map. It's designed for study rather than quick reference. We used it mostly to get a better sense of where the trains were and how places were linked and oriented. I also had a lot of fun using the key (which is in several different European languages, including English and Italian) which shows everything from roads which are snowed over in winter to ruins to cultural points of interest. Yes, the Italian place names are in Italian, which is very helpful if you're trying to figure out where you are with Italian signage.
A big map that is great for planning your trip. Lists all towns unlike many tourist oriented maps. I’ve used Michelin maps before when traveling. They are very big and I just fold them as necessary and figure they will basically be shredded by the time my travels are over.
Printed maps still have their place in our digital world. I have this nice big map on my wall and am plotting out our trip to Italy later this year. It great!
I'm giving this map 3 stars, though perhaps that's a bit unfair. I needed a map to get me from the Rome airport (FCO) up to Umbria, and this did the trick. What the map cannot accomplish, however, is a simplification of the Italian roads and naming conventions. In that respect, I suppose you could say that this map was perfect in that it mirrored reality. Roads change number almost at random it seems, and a map (at least for me) was most useful to ensure I was headed in the correct direction (that is, East, West, etc., as opposed to "Umbria"). For that, you simply have to watch the road signs. In all, this map did what we needed it to do - help chart long distances - but for anything more than that, you'll need one of Michelin's excellent regional maps (which were great).
Excellent map. Big enough to let me appreciate details as names, roads, etc. We are planning a road trip in Italy and this map is very helpful.
This Michelin Map provided us exactly what we needed on our trip. I was detailed enough to ensure that we were able to travel Italy with no problem. Good map!
