After driving the wrong way down a one way street, someone recommended this book to me.It has a chapter showing pictures of, and explaining, common traffic signs. I cannot speak for Europe, but every American going to Iceland should bring this with you. It will save you days of confusion and frustration. And probably some money on traffic tickets/accidents as well.A must have!
A charming and sometimes funny book about the things the traveler needs to know if they are visiting Iceland.Iceland is somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit so I was intrigued to come across this book. The author is the first to say this is not a comprehensive guide but I do feel like I know a lot more about Iceland now than I did before reading it and as I come from a warm country her warnings about being safe in the cold and in the wild Icelandic weather are very useful for me.She includes a lot of interesting information like the traffic signs that you might come across - nothing like any I’ve ever seen before - and a bit of information about the sights to visit. And there’s a gentle humor in the book that makes it an easy and pleasurable read.I also liked the troubleshooting section where she gives advice on what to do if you find yourself stuck and the I-told-you-not-to asides when you do something like cross a river when the book has already warned you not to engage in such foolhardy behavior. This book also includes some lovely photos of the scenery in Iceland and some very useful websites and phone numbers that you might need if you find yourself in trouble and need emergency help or really help of any sort. And I loved the footnotes which further explain points throughout the text.I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t think of a thing I’d change about it.Recommended.
